“Lear mourns Cordelia”
36 x 36, oil on canvas, 2009

It’s said Lear escaped into lunacy after Cordelia’s death as it was the only means he could employ to cope with his daughters death. Lear denied Cordelia at first because he suspected she did not love him as much as Goneril or Regan. Later he found their love to be insincere and that Cordelia loved him as a daughter should. After discovering his mistake and upon her death it was too much for him to endure. He died soon after.
