Panel One, Agamemnon, 68” x 65 ½", oil on canvas

Panel Two, Eumenides, 68" x 64", oil on canvas

Panel Three, the Libation Bearers, 68" x 64 ½", oil on canvas

There are three panels here that depict the epic play written by Aeschylus. The artist was introduced to this drama early in his life. The message of Agamemnon always stayed with him. The idea of Agamemnon, the soldier General overlain with the concept of betrayal by Clytaemestra and subsequent retribution by Orestes was a compelling story. The story is full of the complexities of ordinary family life. The dead King Agamemnon floats above the matricide event in a glass coffin while members of the chorus sing. At the trial, lawyers rush to file their briefs of the news of acquittal of Orestes at the court of Apollo. The Lawyers are dressed in business suits and riding scooters. The Watchman signals the return of Agamemnon to Clytaemestra and Aegisthus is there to do her bidding.
