John Kinunan was a special friend because he was very smart. I think he was very smart because he questioned everything. At first I thought he was just kidding. Later, I found that he was very sincere. He had a particular way of framing questions that made them sound absurd. I came to appreciate that.

JK and I applied to sweep runways. The man who interviewed us for the job asked us for our last grade completed. I immediately imagined how JK would relate this story. We had been standing in snow that was over our heads all day to apply for that job.
